Here's a tip for making your holiday cards more fun and affordable -- with photography, of course! When the weather finally cools off here in Dallas we all rush outdoors and start thinking family portraits. Dallas, Plano, Frisco and Allen all have some great outdoor spots, but you have to know what to look for. Why not plan to make the session more fun (and more creative) by adding a touch of the holidays to the actual setting? Banners are big this year and easy to make. The example here could easily have been extended to spell Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. Or if you don't have time to make your own, shop Etsy.com. We searched "holiday banners" and came up with over 10,000 options.
When there is a holiday element in the card itself, there are no distracting graphics and very little else needed to send your holiday wishes. The key is getting your family to relax and enjoy the process, so get them to help with planning the theme so that everyone is invested in the fun. In the family portrait shown here, we had the option to take the banner down and shoot the perfect casual portrait with some nice natural texture. And everyone knows that portraits are great as holiday gifts (one size fits all)! To make your budget stretch even further, plan a three or four generations family portrait event. Share the cost of the session with your extended family and get great shots of the cousins, siblings, grandparents and even the pets!
